DPD Flagship Site: two years on

DPD Flagship Site: two years on

Reflecting on performance, design and longevity

When we completed the Flagship Site for DPD in London Docklands just over two years ago, the brief was clear. The space needed to lead by example and showcase how a modern workplace could look and feel while supporting day to day operations, collaboration and future growth with sustainability and quality at the forefront. Now, with two full years of use behind it, it feels like the right time to reflect on how the space has performed and what has stood the test of time.

A workspace designed to work hard

From day one the Flagship Site was designed to be more than just visually impressive. The priority was to create a practical yet flexible environment that could adapt to changing needs without compromising on comfort or identity.

Two years on, and it still works exceptionally well, with clear transitions between focused work areas, collaborative zones and breakout spaces. Staff feedback has consistently highlighted how easy it is to move through the building and choose a space that suits the task at hand.

The balance between openness and privacy has proven especially important. Meeting rooms and quieter zones continue to be heavily used, while open collaboration spaces encourage regular interaction without feeling overwhelming.

Materials and finishes that last

One of the biggest tests of any commercial interior is how it copes with daily wear. At the DPD Flagship Site, durability was considered from the earliest stages of design.

Two years on, and the install is holding up exactly as intended. Flooring across high traffic areas still look fresh with minimal signs of wear. Wall finishes and joinery continue to perform well, even in spaces that see constant use throughout the week. Furniture selections have proven robust and functional, supporting different working styles without constant maintenance or replacement.

This longevity highlights the value of investing in quality finishes from the outset. Choosing materials that balance aesthetics with performance has helped the space retain its original impact.

Supporting evolving ways of working

In the time since completion, the way people use office spaces has continued to evolve. Hybrid working patterns are not firmly embedded and workplaces need to be adaptable enough to support fluctuating occupancy.

Flexible furniture layouts and multipurpose areas have allowed the DPD teams to reconfigure spaces easily as needs change, responding well to this new shift of working. Collaboration areas continue to be used for meetings, presentations and informal catch ups, while desk areas remain comfortable and efficient for focused tasks.

Importantly, the space has not required significant alterations to support these changes. The original design allowed for movement and adjustment which has reduced disruption and future costs.

Environmental considerations that matter

Sustainability was a key part of the original brief and it remains an important measure of success. Energy efficient lighting, considered material choices and re‑use strategies have all contributed to a workspace that performs responsibly as well as aesthetically.

Over the past two years this has translated into lower maintenance demands and a more comfortable environment for users. Natural light continues to enhance wellbeing throughout the building, while thoughtful lighting design supports different tasks without waste.

A brand that still speaks clearly

As a flagship environment, the space was designed to reflect brand values at every level. Colour choices and bespoke elements remain visually striking without feeling dated.

Rather than chasing trends, the design focused on timeless principles. This has ensured the space continues to feel contemporary without needing regular refreshes.

What the client thinks

“Two years on, our London Docklands site continues to exceed our expectations. The installation delivered a workspace that not only reflects our brand but genuinely enhances the way our team's work today. The quality of the finishes and the thought behind the design have really stood the test of time, with the space still feeling as fresh, functional and inspiring as it did on day one. It’s a great example of how investing in the right design and delivery partner creates long-term value for our people and our operations.”

Looking back and moving forward

Reflecting on the DPD Flagship Site two years on, the outcome speaks for itself. The space has remained functional, adaptable and visually strong while supporting the people who use it every day.

This project reinforces the value of a collaborative design process and a clear understanding of how a space will be used long term. By focusing on flexibility, quality and purpose rather than short‑term trends, the DPD Site continues to perform as intended.

This project stands as a reminder that good design is not just about how a space looks on day one. It is about how it supports people, operations and identity years down the line.
